Three U.S. states are preparing to carry out executions on the same day, marking the first occurrence of this kind since 2010. Tennessee, Alabama, and Oklahoma have scheduled lethal injection procedures for Thursday, with each state executing one inmate convicted of murder.
The executions involve three separate cases. Tennessee will execute Anthony Darrell Hines for a 1985 murder, while Alabama plans to put Jeremy Williams to death for crimes committed in 2021. Oklahoma will execute Carlos Cuesta-Rodriguez for a fatal shooting that occurred in 2003. The last time three states executed inmates simultaneously was 16 years ago in Louisiana, Ohio, and Texas.
The scheduled executions occur as public support for capital punishment continues to decline across the nation. Recent polling data indicates that only 52 percent of Americans view the death penalty as morally acceptable, representing the lowest level of support recorded since the 1970s. If the proceedings move forward as planned, 2026 will see executions in at least six states, continuing a pattern of diminishing use of capital punishment throughout the country.
