Hollywood is revving up for a nostalgic return to the racing circuit. Tom Cruise has officially confirmed that a sequel to the 1990 film “Days of Thunder” is in development, with Anne Hathaway set to join the cast. The announcement was made at Daytona International Speedway, the iconic home of the Daytona 500, marking a significant moment for the long-awaited follow-up.
Cruise will reprise his role as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle, while Hathaway will take on the part of a team owner and engineer. The project will be directed by Jonathan Levine from a script by Will Staples, with Cruise also serving as a producer alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release in June 2028, nearly four decades after the original movie debuted.
The production will utilize premium cinema formats, with the sequel shot in IMAX and distributed exclusively in theaters through Dolby Cinema and 4DX presentations.
