Plans for a “New Girl” revival have been definitively ruled out by the show’s creator. Liz Meriwether made clear that no scripts currently exist for such a project, contradicting earlier statements made by Max Greenfield, who portrayed Schmidt during the original run of the Fox comedy series.
Greenfield sparked reunion speculation in July when he claimed to have seen completed scripts described as “amazing” during a television appearance. Meriwether responded with a humorous video posted to social media, joking that the scripts had received numerous notes and revision requests from the cast. She suggested that the ongoing playful exchanges between herself and the actors might serve as an alternative form of reunion content for fans.
The original series aired for seven seasons between 2011 and 2018. While a full revival remains unlikely, the cast will reunite for a public appearance at the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball in Los Angeles on October 10, where they will be honored with the Rising Phoenix Award. The gathering will recognize the show’s central theme of new beginnings.
Meriwether is currently focused on adapting Britney Spears’ memoir “The Woman in Me” into a film, with Jon M. Chu set to direct. She explained that transitioning from television writing to movie scripts has required adjusting her storytelling approach to fit a two-hour format rather than the extended narratives she typically creates.
