The New England Patriots have bolstered their running back depth by acquiring Corey Kiner from the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a 2028 seventh-round draft pick. The trade came after Arizona decided to release the undrafted rookie, prompting New England to act quickly to secure his services.
With the Patriots sitting at 31st in the waiver order, the team faced the possibility of missing out on Kiner if another franchise claimed him first. Rather than risk losing the young back through waivers, New England opted to trade a late-round pick more than a year away to guarantee his acquisition.
During his rookie season with Arizona last year, Kiner appeared in four games and demonstrated potential, recording 12 carries for 58 yards and two receptions for 15 yards. However, the Cardinals elected to move in a different direction after bringing in first-round selection Jeremiah Love and free agent Tyler Allgeier to shore up their backfield this offseason.
Kiner now joins a Patriots roster looking to add depth at the position. His opportunity to make an impact in New England begins immediately following the trade.
