The Dublin-born group is marking a significant milestone in 2027, celebrating five decades since its formation at Mount Temple Comprehensive School. Throughout their storied career, U2 has earned 22 Grammy Awards and sold over 170 million albums worldwide. Beyond their musical legacy, each band member has championed various humanitarian initiatives, including support for Music Generation, Ireland’s national music education program.
The individual members have established impressive philanthropic records. Bono previously received the MusiCares honor in 2003 and co-founded organizations addressing global poverty and AIDS. The Edge established Music Rising following Hurricane Katrina to assist affected musicians and programs. Clayton has supported mental health and addiction initiatives, while Mullen Jr. produced a documentary about New York City’s first public school for dyslexic students.
