Anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI’s November release continues to build, but subscribers to Xbox Game Pass should temper their expectations about day-one access. The highly anticipated title will not launch as part of the subscription service, nor will it be available on PC during its initial rollout. This means players eager to experience the game immediately upon release must purchase it separately and play on either an Xbox or PlayStation console.
While future inclusion on Game Pass remains possible, the publisher’s leadership has made their position on day-one subscription availability clear. Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick explained during a 2022 industry event that releasing major console titles simultaneously with subscription services does not align with the company’s economic model or consumer expectations. The company has indicated it prefers a traditional release strategy for its flagship franchises.
History suggests a lengthy wait may be ahead for Game Pass subscribers. Grand Theft Auto V, released in 2013, did not arrive on the subscription platform until over six years later. Even then, the game cycled on and off the service periodically before its most recent departure in April 2026. While GTA V’s availability history indicates previous entries can eventually reach Game Pass, there is no guarantee GTA VI will follow the same timeline or pattern.
