The remaining members of Soundgarden took the stage Wednesday evening at Lumen Field during the Seattle Seahawks’ season-opening matchup against the New England Patriots. The legendary grunge band’s surviving lineup—comprising guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist Ben Shepherd, and drummer Matt Cameron—reunited for a special halftime performance that drew significant attention from music fans and sports enthusiasts alike.
The performance featured guest appearances from two notable musicians with deep Seattle roots. Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless, who previously opened for Soundgarden during the band’s final tour with late frontman Chris Cornell, joined the group as a vocalist. Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, serving as a second guitarist, also contributed to the reunion. The setlist included the classic track “Outshined” from the band’s 1991 album Badmotorfinger, along with an emotional rendition of “Spoonman” from Superunknown—marking the first performance of that song since May 17, 2017, the date of Soundgarden’s final show with Cornell.
This marks another chapter in the band’s intermittent reunion efforts since Cornell’s death nearly a decade ago. The group has periodically reunited for significant occasions, including the I Am the Highway tribute concert in 2019 and their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2025, typically enlisting female vocalists to perform the late singer’s parts. McCready also performed the national anthem before the Seahawks’ comeback victory over New England.
