The film draws from exclusive interviews with original cast members including William Shatner and George Takei, alongside contemporary performers from various Star Trek productions. Directors also incorporated previously unreleased archival footage and firsthand accounts from those instrumental in developing the franchise. Director Mark A. Altman explained that the filmmakers sought to move beyond typical Star Trek coverage, instead examining the creative struggles, risks, and triumphs that allowed an unlikely television series to persist and ultimately transform into a cultural institution. The project aims to showcase how the franchise inspired millions of viewers while establishing a forward-looking vision that has resonated across generations.
William Shatner serves as executive producer on the documentary alongside other industry professionals. The film will debut exclusively in Regal Cinemas locations beginning October 8, with tickets currently available for purchase.
