Directed by Florian Zeller, “Bunker” tells the story of a married couple whose relationship deteriorates when the husband agrees to design a survivalist compound for a wealthy tech entrepreneur, played by Paul Dano. As the ovation continued past the ten-minute mark, Cruz thanked attendees and interacted with admirers while co-star Patrick Schwarzenegger and other cast members stood to receive individual recognition from the enthusiastic crowd.
The film marks Zeller’s return to Venice, where his previous work “The Son” competed in 2022. Zeller drew inspiration from Stanley Kubrick’s “Eyes Wide Shut,” deliberately casting the real-life couple to blur the line between their authentic relationship and their fictional portrayal. Sony Pictures Classics acquired North American distribution rights and plans to release the film theatrically in early 2027 following an awards-season campaign.
