Anthropic is in preliminary discussions with Nvidia regarding potential funding for a planned initial public offering, according to Reuters sources. The arrangement could represent one of the most significant market debuts in history, with the AI company seeking to raise approximately $100 billion and potentially reach a $2 trillion valuation.
Nvidia is reportedly considering contributing up to $10 billion to the offering as part of the negotiations, though specific terms remain subject to change. This type of arrangement, known as anchor investing, has become standard practice for major IPOs, as it provides market confidence in the offering. Similar strategies were employed during the public debuts of chip designer Arm and SpaceX, which went public in June of this year.
The two companies already maintain substantial business connections. Nvidia previously committed to investing up to $10 billion in Anthropic last November, concurrent with Anthropic pledging $30 billion toward Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing services, which utilize Nvidia technology. A new investment tied to the IPO would further strengthen their existing partnership.
Both companies declined to provide official statements regarding the discussions. The potential IPO would contribute to a record year for U.S. stock market activity, as non-blank-check IPOs had already generated $137 billion in capital by late August.
