The New York Times has launched a sports-themed version of its popular word puzzle game in partnership with The Athletic. Today’s edition, puzzle #719 for September 12, 2026, is expected to appeal particularly to volleyball enthusiasts.
Connections: Sports Edition follows the same mechanics as the original game, challenging players to identify common themes linking groups of four words from a selection of 16 total words. Players have up to four incorrect guesses before the game ends. Each category is color-coded by difficulty level, with yellow being easiest and purple presenting the greatest challenge. The puzzle refreshes daily and can be played on web browsers and mobile devices.
Today’s puzzle features four categories: Arizona professional sports teams, Big Ten university locations, members of the Manning football family, and Major League Volleyball franchises. The solutions include Arizona Cardinals, Phoenix Suns, and Arizona Diamondbacks for the sports category; Champaign, Columbus, Lincoln, and Piscataway for university towns; quarterback names Peyton, Eli, Arch, and Archie Manning; and volleyball teams including Pulse, Valkyries, Supernovas, and Vibe.
Like the original Connections game and Wordle, players can share their results on social media. New puzzles release daily with increasing difficulty levels.
