Netflix has unveiled a trailer for its upcoming reality competition series “Wonka’s The Golden Ticket,” which will premiere on September 23. The nine-episode show transports contestants into a fully constructed replica of the chocolate factory from Roald Dahl’s beloved novel, where they face off in a series of themed challenges. Twenty-four participants—twelve “Golden Ticket winners” and their respective partners—compete for a substantial grand prize described as a lifetime supply of money.
The competition incorporates iconic elements inspired by the 1971 film adaptation, including challenges featuring lickable wallpaper and an elaborate “Wonkavision” stage. As contestants are progressively eliminated throughout the season, an unseen narrator guides viewers through the proceedings, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of high-stakes competition shows with a whimsical twist.
One notable feature involves artificial intelligence technology to recreate the voice of Gene Wilder, the original film’s star who passed away in 2016. The late actor’s estate collaborated with AI company ElevenLabs to generate the voice-over narration. Karen B. Wilder, the actor’s widow, expressed satisfaction with the project, stating it honors Wilder’s legacy while introducing his interpretation of the character to new audiences.
The show was produced in Australia through Eureka Productions, with support from local tax incentives. The executive production team includes Chris Culvenor, Paul Franklin, and several other industry professionals.
