TCU football fans are counting down the final moments before the Horned Frogs take the field for their 2026 season opener against North Carolina in Dublin, Ireland on August 29. As part of a special countdown series, Uchemedia is featuring former players whose jersey numbers match the days remaining until kickoff. Today’s spotlight falls on number one: wide receiver Quentin Johnston.
Johnston arrived at TCU as a highly-touted four-star recruit and quickly established himself as one of the program’s most talented receivers. Over three seasons in Fort Worth, the standout pass-catcher accumulated 2,190 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. His freshman campaign saw him catch 22 passes for 487 yards and two scores while the Horned Frogs posted a 6-4 record.
The 2022 season proved to be Johnston’s breakout year, as he hauled in 60 catches for 1,069 yards and six touchdowns while leading TCU to a 13-2 record and Fiesta Bowl victory over Michigan. Johnston earned First-Team All-Big 12 honors in both 2021 and 2022, and his exceptional performance in the bowl game earned him Offensive MVP honors after recording 163 receiving yards and a touchdown on six receptions.
Following his college success, the Los Angeles Chargers selected Johnston with the 21st overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The 24-year-old has appeared in 46 games with 31 starts, recording 144 receptions for 1,877 yards and 18 touchdowns. The Chargers recently exercised Johnston’s fifth-year option as he enters his fourth professional season.
