Curry rose to prominence during the 1970s for his portrayal of Dr. Frank N. Furter, the flamboyant villain in Richard O’Brien’s musical comedy. He originally performed the character on the London stage before bringing it to theatrical productions in Los Angeles and New York. The 1975 film adaptation, directed by Jim Sharman, initially failed commercially but eventually became a beloved cult classic that defined Curry’s career and public image.
Beyond his most famous role, Curry demonstrated considerable range as a performer across multiple mediums.
