Hugo Valenti, a tribute band vocalist who has spent over two decades performing as a Journey sound-alike, achieved a significant milestone when the iconic rock band invited him to perform with them during an August 29 concert in Fukuoka, Japan. Valenti took the stage to sing “Faithfully,” marking the realization of a long-held dream for the New Jersey-based performer.
Valenti’s resemblance to former Journey frontman Steve Perry and his comparable vocal abilities nearly landed him the lead singer role nearly three decades ago. In the late 1990s, following Perry’s departure from the band, Valenti was briefly considered as a replacement. However, Journey ultimately decided that his striking similarity to Perry presented challenges for the band’s future direction, and they eventually selected Steve Augeri as their new vocalist.
Since that missed opportunity, Valenti has maintained a successful career fronting Journey tribute acts, including the bands Voyage and Hugo—The Ultimate Journey Tribute.
