Tencent Video unveiled its highly anticipated “Warrior Cats” animated adaptation at a special fan event in Shenzhen, offering audiences their first look at the series’ animation and character designs. The presentation featured series director Rodrigo Blaas and Zhou Wang, vice president of content production at Tencent Video, who provided insight into the creative development process behind the project.
A highlight of the gathering was the debut of a three-dimensional character model of Rusty, the story’s protagonist, which Blaas personally constructed and presented to fans for the first time. The event also screened work-in-progress footage showing animated characters and environments, giving attendees a preview of the show’s visual style. Blaas discussed his approach to translating the beloved book series into animation and walked through how the adaptation has evolved creatively.
The animated series adapts Erin Hunter’s bestselling book saga, which centers on four feline clans living by a code of honor, with Rusty serving as a house cat who eventually becomes a clan leader. Original Force is handling animation production, while A.C. Bradley serves as showrunner. The series draws from “The Prophecies Begin,” the first story arc in the franchise, and is scheduled to premiere in 2028 on Tencent Video platforms across China and Southeast Asia.
