Legendary singer Tom Jones has alleged that broadcaster ITV terminated his position as a judge on “The Voice U.K.” due to insurance-related financial concerns. The 86-year-old artist took to social media to clarify that he did not voluntarily depart from the competition series, emphasizing his affection for the show and its audience. Jones stated that ITV made the decision some time ago, with notification arriving only recently.
According to Jones, the network initially cited insurance difficulties as the reason for his departure. However, ITV subsequently indicated publicly that the decision was part of efforts to refresh the program with a new coaching panel. The broadcaster offered Jones a reduced role involving occasional appearances rather than his traditional involvement from the beginning of each season, which he declined.
Jones, renowned for hits including “It’s Not Unusual,” has been a near-constant presence on the show since its launch in 2012. He initially served on the coaching panel for three years before taking a hiatus and returning when the program transitioned to ITV in 2017. The current season began airing on August 22, with Jones still appearing alongside coaches including will.i.am, Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, and Kelly Rowland.
Following weekend reports that Jones would not return for the upcoming season, fellow artists have expressed support on social media. ITV has not yet provided an official comment on the matter.
