Several nationally ranked programs are taking the field, while others remain idle ahead of their scheduled openers.
Among the USA TODAY Sports Super 25 ranked teams seeing action this week, top-ranked IMG Academy of Florida and third-ranked Bishop Gorman of Nevada are competing, along with several other preseason contenders. However, the rankings have already experienced their first shake-up, as unranked North Gwinnett delivered a significant upset by defeating 12th-ranked Grayson of Georgia 37-22 on Thursday, signaling that the preseason hierarchy may face further changes as the season progresses.
In early results, seventh-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas from Fort Lauderdale dominated Cardinal Mooney with a 49-0 victory in a preseason contest, while 20th-ranked Carol City edged West Boca 24-23 in overtime. American Heritage also made a statement with a commanding 44-6 win over Calvary Christian Academy in a preseason matchup. Many of the nation’s elite programs remain idle, preparing for their official season openers scheduled for later in August.
