Acclaimed character actor Stephen Root has officially confirmed his involvement in Rockstar Games’ upcoming “Grand Theft Auto 6,” set to launch this November. Root provides voice work for Brian Heder, a fictional drug smuggler operating out of the Leonida Keys, a game location inspired by Florida’s actual Keys.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Root acknowledged that keen-eyed fans had likely already identified his participation based on promotional materials released by Rockstar approximately a year ago. The actor attributed the early discovery to his recognizable voice, which audiences associate with his previous work on the animated series “King of the Hill.”
Root’s character is described as a seasoned operator from the region’s smuggling heyday, who continues running his illicit enterprise through a boat yard alongside his third wife, Lori. The casting marks another notable achievement for the 74-year-old performer, who recently won his first Emmy Award for his supporting role in Apple TV’s “Widow’s Bay,” making him the oldest actor to win in that category.
