Sony Pictures Television has launched a new streaming service called “Live TV on PS5,” designed to bridge a long-standing gap between advertisers and gaming console users. The platform offers over 100 free, ad-supported video channels accessible directly through PlayStation 5 devices, with the service currently rolling out in the United States and expanding to Canada in the coming months.
Gaming audiences have historically proven difficult for traditional advertisers to reach through conventional marketing channels. Peter Wood, executive vice president of consumer platforms at Sony Pictures Entertainment, noted that PlayStation users engage primarily with gaming and video content and rarely interact with standard connected television environments. The new service represents Sony’s strategy to connect these elusive consumers with relevant advertising in a more natural way.
The channel lineup includes major media partners such as ABC News, ESPN, Fox, NBCUniversal, and NASCAR, along with specialized content from Crunchyroll anime channels and popular series like “The Walking Dead” and “Hot Ones.” Sony plans to expand the offering over time with additional channels and programming. The company will partner with advertising firms Publica and PubMatic to ensure advertisements are tailored appropriately for the PlayStation audience, leveraging Sony’s reach across millions of global consumers.
