Netflix is expanding its adaptation of Roald Dahl’s work by developing a drama series based on the author’s short stories for adult audiences. The streaming platform acquired the Roald Dahl Story Company in 2021 and has since produced multiple projects, including a musical adaptation of “Matilda” and upcoming projects tied to “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”
The new series features an impressive ensemble cast including Nicola Coughlan, Naomi Scott, Dominic West, and Imelda Staunton, among others. According to the official description, the story follows a young couple stranded in a deteriorating seaside resort who encounter various unsavory characters, including con artists and murderers, while attempting to escape their circumstances before becoming trapped permanently.
Writer Danny Brocklehurst, known for his work on Netflix’s “Fool Me Once,” penned the series and expressed his enthusiasm for the project. Brocklehurst credited Dahl’s short stories as inspiration for his own career and stated he is thrilled to adapt these characters for a contemporary audience. The production team includes Orchid Pictures, with Gabriel Silver and Suzanne Mackie serving as executive producers alongside Brocklehurst.
