Kate Winslet will headline a new limited series for Netflix titled “The Unheard,” a five-episode vengeance thriller drawing comparisons to the classic film “Thelma & Louise.” The drama, penned by Jack Thorne, the writer behind “Adolescence,” centers on two sisters who flee after a revenge plot spirals out of control. Production is slated to begin next year, with British actress Maxine Peake joining Winslet in the cast.
The series explores the circumstances that drive the sisters to their desperate act, questioning whether escape was ever part of their plan as they evade pursuit. Director Mounia Akl helms the project, which represents a collaboration among multiple production companies including Warp Films, Matriarch Productions, and Plan B. Winslet will also serve as an executive producer on the venture, alongside Thorne.
Netflix’s U.K. content chief Anne Mensah announced the project during the Edinburgh TV Festival, positioning it within a broader slate of ambitious British programming. The announcement coincided with reveals of other upcoming projects, including a “Top Boy” spinoff and a new adaptation series based on Roald Dahl’s short stories. Mensah emphasized Netflix’s commitment to taking creative risks and supporting distinctive British talent in an increasingly competitive television market.
