Singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers hosted an unconventional listening party at the Moonlight Rollerway in Glendale, California on Tuesday night, where she skated alongside approximately 200 fans to preview her upcoming album “Lost Weekend.” The YouTube-sponsored event featured Bridgers gliding around the rink in special light-up skates while attendees experienced her introspective new record in an unexpected setting.
The pairing of mellow, contemplative music with roller skating might seem unusual, but Bridgers revealed it was a longtime personal vision. During a brief question-and-answer session with fans after the skating concluded, she explained that she had long imagined combining slow songs with skating rather than the typical upbeat music traditionally played at rinks. She compared the concept to her desire to replace fast-paced theme park soundtracks with much slower tempos.
Bridgers’ promotional strategy for “Lost Weekend” has been notably unconventional throughout. The artist previously conducted pop-up performances in small American cities before officially announcing the album, and her team has organized planetarium listening events across the country and internationally for Spotify-sponsored previews. Notably, Bridgers has declined to participate in traditional media interviews for this album cycle, making the skating party one of her only direct interactions with fans about the new material.
