The three-part series, titled “Cunk on Cinema,” will feature conversations with director Michael Bay and actor Benedict Cumberbatch, among other prominent industry figures. The show has been described as the “most glamorous series to date” for the character, whose comedic appeal centers on asking poorly informed questions to knowledgeable guests.
The mockumentary will trace the evolution of filmmaking from the invention of the camera through various cinematic movements and technological advances, including the rise of CGI and potential impacts of artificial intelligence. Additional guests confirmed for the series include composer Daniel Pemberton, screenwriter Steven E. de Souza, cinematographer Seamus McGarvey, film critic Mark Kermode, and documentary filmmaker Mark Cousins. Throughout the episodes, Cunk will humorously attempt to grapple with fundamental questions about cinema’s origins and purpose.
“Cunk on Cinema” represents the latest installment in the popular franchise created by Charlie Brooker, following previous editions focused on life, Earth, Shakespeare, and Britain. The series is a co-production between Pacesetter Productions and will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC Two in the United Kingdom and Ireland, with Netflix providing distribution internationally.
