Sandra Wollner’s latest feature film “Everytime” is making its way across North America following its triumphant festival run. The Berlin-based director’s third feature premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival this week and will continue to major festivals in New York and Vancouver. The film has already garnered significant recognition, including the Un Certain Regard Prize at Cannes and the Grand Prize at Sarajevo. Germany has also selected it as its official submission for consideration at the Academy Awards.
The drama follows three characters navigating grief and reconciliation after a devastating accident that occurs just before a family vacation. The cast includes Birgit Minichmayr as a grieving mother, alongside her late daughter’s boyfriend and younger daughter as they grapple with blame and forgiveness. Wollner crafted the narrative to balance profound emotional moments with mundane everyday interactions, creating what she describes as a grounded and realistic portrayal of how people process trauma.
In discussing her creative approach, Wollner emphasized her fascination with how memory, identity, and imagination intersect within human experience. Working alongside cinematographer Gregory Oke, she developed a visual language that captures both expansive emotions and intimate character moments across Berlin and Tenerife. She noted that audiences have responded deeply to the film, with viewers approaching her after screenings to share their own personal stories inspired by the narrative.
“Everytime” is scheduled for theatrical release in North America in early 2027, having already been distributed to over 30 territories worldwide.
