The 30th Ji.hlava Documentary Film Festival has announced its New Visions Forum selection, featuring 29 projects from 15 countries. The forum, scheduled for October 28-30, provides filmmakers and production teams with opportunities to meet potential partners in co-production, financing, sales, and distribution. The festival attracts approximately 1,200 industry professionals annually.
The selected lineup includes works from both emerging and established directors. Among the participants are Pulitzer Prize-winning filmmaker Lindsey Sitz presenting “Searching for SmarterChild,” Iranian director Ali Razi with “Archiveless Memories, for an Imaginary Museum,” and Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Zwiefka offering “Words We Never Say.” Eight of the projects come from first-time filmmakers, while others represent new endeavors by acclaimed directors with extensive track records.
The forum’s programming reflects several recurring themes across the selected works, including memory and archival materials, power dynamics between individuals and larger systems, and connections between personal narratives and historical contexts. The geographic representation spans Europe, the United States, and East and Southeast Asia, with six projects from Montenegro, designated this year as the Country in Focus for the festival’s industry initiatives.
Accompanying the New Visions Forum is a Matchmaking Accelerator program designed to facilitate connections between selected projects and international industry decision-makers, further enhancing opportunities for collaboration and development.
