Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired North American distribution rights to “Game,” a thriller set in the 1990s British rave scene. The film marks the feature directorial debut of visual artist John Minton and comes from Portishead founder Geoff Barrow’s production company, Invada Films. The movie is slated for theatrical release during winter 2027.
The film stars Jason Williamson of the band Sleaford Mods and Marc Bessant in leading roles for the first time. The story centers on an aging raver named David who crashes his vehicle in a remote wooded area while transporting stolen money and drugs. His discovery by a mysterious poacher leads to a tense encounter when the poacher pursues his own sinister agenda rather than offering assistance.
Minton brings extensive experience in music video and live performance visuals to the project, having previously worked with major artists including Portishead, Oasis, and Simple Minds. The screenplay was written by Rob Williams based on a concept developed by Barrow and Bessant. Barrow, who has composed for television and film projects including “Black Mirror” and “Ex Machina,” serves as both producer and creative force behind the endeavor through his company.
Oscilloscope Laboratories, founded by Beastie Boys member Adam Yauch in 2008, has established itself as a distributor of distinctive cinema, having previously released acclaimed films from directors including Lynne Ramsay and Kelly Reichardt.
