Country musician Orville Peck has unveiled “Already Gone,” the third track released from his upcoming album Mule, scheduled for release on September 18 through Warner Records. The energetic single showcases Peck’s five-piece band alongside collaborators Molly Tuttle, Ketch Secor, and Ry Jennings, with production helmed by Jay Joyce and songwriting credits shared between Peck and Jacob Portrait.
The composition serves as a narrative centerpiece for the forthcoming project, exploring Peck’s personal struggles with addiction and recovery. According to the artist’s statement, the track appears early in the album’s chronological storytelling, capturing the moment he first entered a rehabilitation facility while maintaining denial about the severity of his condition. A corresponding music video, directed by Austin Peters, visually interprets this internal conflict by presenting the rehab experience as a whimsical musical against the backdrop of his actual crisis situation.
The accompanying visual features appearances from Noah Cyrus, Allison Russel, and Cathy Cooper, continuing their roles as manifestations of Peck’s psyche from previous album videos. Mule documents a transformative year in Peck’s life, charting his path from relationship dissolution and addiction through treatment and sobriety. Peck’s Man Turned Mule Tour commences September 12 in San Francisco, running through November, with proceeds from North American ticket sales supporting the Trevor Project’s crisis services for LGBTQ+ youth.
