The Dallas Cowboys have completed a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers to acquire offensive tackle Broderick Jones, according to sources familiar with the transaction announced Saturday. The deal involves an exchange of future draft selections, with Pittsburgh sending Jones along with a 2027 fourth-round pick in exchange for Dallas’ 2027 third- and sixth-round choices.
Jones was selected 14th overall by the Steelers in the 2023 draft out of Georgia and appeared in 45 games over three seasons with Pittsburgh, starting in 38 of those contests. However, the player faced significant injury challenges last season, missing the final six games after suffering a neck injury in November and subsequently undergoing fusion surgery that required extensive rehabilitation.
The acquisition signals Dallas’ concerns about its tackle depth heading into the season. The Cowboys have struggled to find consistent solutions at the position throughout training camp and preseason, with veteran Terence Steele entering his seventh year and third-year player Tyler Guyton both failing to inspire confidence during the evaluation period. The team’s other tackle options also failed to distinguish themselves during camp activities and preseason matchups.
Pittsburgh’s decision to decline Jones’ fifth-year contract option and draft a replacement tackle earlier this offseason indicated the team was preparing to move away from the player they once viewed as a cornerstone piece of their offensive line.
