Maria Bartiromo’s departure from Fox News appears rooted in a fundamental conflict between her roles as a financial journalist and a political commentator. Originally hired to strengthen the network’s business news coverage, Bartiromo increasingly shifted toward opinion-based programming and commentary on political matters, creating tension within the organization.
The situation escalated after several notable incidents. In June, Bartiromo was forced to issue an on-air apology following false claims made by entrepreneur Kevin O’Leary during one of her segments. More significantly, she allegedly shared internal directives from Fox Business Network leadership with the White House, a move that could constitute a breach of confidentiality agreements and company policy.
The financial performance of Bartiromo’s shows also declined considerably. Her morning program struggled to compete with CNBC’s rival offering, particularly among the 25-54 demographic preferred by advertisers. Advertising revenue for her business programs dropped nearly 58 percent between 2022 and 2025, falling from $8.9 million to $3.7 million annually.
Fox News announced the split as “a business decision” without elaboration. Bartiromo’s attorney denied she was fired, suggesting legal disputes may follow. President Trump publicly criticized the network’s decision, praising Bartiromo as a professional and suggesting her departing viewers would be dissatisfied.
