Jim Thornton has been terminated from his position as announcer on the long-running game show “Wheel of Fortune,” according to a statement from Sony Pictures Television on Friday. The studio confirmed that the decision came after a comprehensive investigation into unspecified allegations against the media personality.
Thornton’s departure follows reports of an incident that occurred on an American Airlines flight in May. When the aircraft landed at Los Angeles International Airport, law enforcement responded to concerns raised by another passenger. However, Thornton’s legal representative disputed any wrongdoing, stating that he was not arrested, charged with any crime, or engaged in illegal conduct. According to the attorney, law enforcement questioned Thornton briefly and determined no violation had occurred.
Thornton has served as the announcer for “Wheel of Fortune” since 2010, following the death of previous announcer Charlie O’Donnell.
