Indiana State University baseball will compete in a prestigious early-season tournament next year, facing three nationally competitive programs in what promises to be a challenging nonconference slate. The Sycamores will participate in the inaugural 2027 Orlando Baseball Classic, a six-team round-robin event scheduled for late February at ESPN Wide World of Sports Stadium at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
Indiana State’s opponents represent elite competition, with West Virginia and University of Central Florida both having qualified for the College World Series or NCAA regionals in recent seasons, while Pittsburgh finished as an Atlantic Coast Conference tournament semifinalist. The Sycamores will play West Virginia on February 26, Pittsburgh on February 27, and Central Florida on February 28. The tournament also features Michigan and St. John’s, rounding out a high-level field designed to test participating teams early in the season.
Indiana State head coach Tracy Archuleta expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity, noting the value of competing against top-tier programs in a warm-weather setting while providing fans and alumni with a unique experience at the Disney venue. The ESPN Stadium, which can accommodate over 11,000 spectators and features Major League Baseball dimensions, has hosted significant sporting events including spring training and international baseball competitions.
The tournament represents a significant boost to Indiana State’s nonconference schedule, offering the Sycamores—who finished as Missouri Valley Conference runners-up last season with a 30-27 record—early-season opportunities to build momentum before conference play begins.
