Apple has unveiled iOS 27, the latest operating system marking a new chapter under CEO John Ternus’s leadership. The software launches alongside the iPhone 18 and the anticipated folding iPhone Duo, delivering a more integrated experience across Apple’s ecosystem while tackling several long-standing user complaints.
At the heart of iOS 27 lies an enhanced Siri powered by Apple Intelligence, capable of writing, editing photos, and creating custom shortcuts. Beyond the assistant upgrade, the operating system introduces numerous practical improvements including customizable alarm volumes, the ability to use one phone number across two devices via iPhone Hand Off, and enhanced photo capabilities that allow users to extract frames directly from videos. The update also expands compatibility across platforms, enabling Apple users to share full-resolution photo albums with Android and Windows users through iCloud.
Additional features address everyday frustrations and expand functionality. Apple Music receives new transition options, podcast searching gains voice control through Siri, and Maps and Wallet see meaningful improvements. The company has also introduced fresh parental controls through Child Accounts and expanded Health app features to support menopause and perimenopause tracking. Support for indigenous language keyboards and Maps and Wallet enhancements round out the feature set.
iOS 27 is immediately available for iPhone 15 Pro and newer models. Users can update through Settings by selecting General and then Software Update. Mac users can download OS 27, branded “Golden Gate,” while iPad users receive iPadOS 27 with the same comprehensive features.
