Following its recent acquisition by artificial intelligence company Midjourney, Co-Star, a popular astrology application, has announced plans to launch a new dating platform designed specifically for book enthusiasts. The new app, named Readme, targets individuals who enjoy reading or seek romantic connections with fellow book lovers.
Co-Star founder and CEO Banu Guler collaborated with strategist and cultural analyst Emily Segal to develop the concept. According to Segal, the creators observed that despite friends frequently visiting bookstores, the romanticized “bookstore meet-cute” scenario rarely occurred in reality. They sought to recreate that intimate experience through their application, believing literary preferences provide deeper insights into a person’s character than conventional dating app profiles.
Segal acknowledged widespread dissatisfaction with existing dating platforms, noting that users experience fatigue and skepticism about current options. However, she indicated that Co-Star users had expressed interest in a dating component, with astrology representing only part of a larger picture. The precise role cosmic elements will play in Readme remains uncertain, though given the app’s origins, some astrological influence seems probable.
