Arm’s latest graphics technology is making its debut in China with the launch of the Xiaomi 18 Fold, which features the company’s new Mali G2-Ultra NX processor integrated into a custom Xring O3 chip. Following five years of development, this advancement incorporates an AI-powered gaming graphics accelerator that could fundamentally reshape mobile gaming experiences.
The new technology adopts a strategy similar to Nvidia’s approach, bringing desktop-class capabilities to smartphones. This includes faster rendering speeds, improved visual fidelity with advanced lighting effects, and higher resolution imagery—all while maintaining current power consumption levels. The processor claims an 85-percent performance boost compared to Xiaomi’s previous graphics solution, with potential frame rate improvements reaching up to four times higher when multiple AI enhancement techniques work together.
Rather than remaining exclusive to Chinese markets, Arm representatives indicate the Mali G2-Ultra NX will expand to additional devices throughout 2027. Tablets, Chromebooks, and other manufacturers’ phones are expected to adopt the technology, with initial rollouts focusing on AI upscaling capabilities. Frame generation and advanced denoising features will follow in subsequent months, gradually introducing the full suite of neural graphics enhancements to the broader mobile ecosystem.
