HBO has announced plans to bring the acclaimed stage production “Oh, Mary!” to television audiences in 2027. The network will air a filmed adaptation of the dark comedy, which has found success both on Broadway and in London’s West End. Cole Escola, who wrote and stars in the play, will reprise her leading role as Mary Todd Lincoln for the HBO special.
The television adaptation was captured during a July 2026 performance in London and will feature the same cast from the stage production. The 80-minute one-act play examines the life of Mary Todd Lincoln during the weeks preceding Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, exploring themes of longing, addiction, and hidden ambitions. Director Sam Pinkleton, who helmed the original Broadway run, also directed the filmed version.
HBO unveiled the project through a humorous teaser featuring Escola alongside “Sex and the City” stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon. The playful promotional video shows Escola’s character attempting to pitch the play to HBO, with comedic interruptions from the iconic duo. Escola expressed enthusiasm about expanding the show’s reach, stating the televised version would allow more people to experience the theatrical work.
