MoreThan Films has secured distribution rights to “Meteorite,” the debut feature from Colombian filmmaker Sebastián Múnera. The film is scheduled to premiere at the Venice Critics’ Week festival, taking place from September 2-12.
The narrative centers on two characters, Tefa and Nia, who inhabit a modest riverside settlement near the Magdalena River where they care for Nia’s young son. When Nia convinces Tefa to participate in smuggling mobile phones into a nearby correctional facility, the pair’s journey leads them through an unusual destination: an elaborate theme park constructed atop the former property of a narcotics kingpin. As they navigate attractions like water slides and animatronic installations, troubling recollections resurface amid the tropical atmosphere.
Múnera, a visual artist with international recognition, brings a distinctive artistic sensibility to the project. His previous work has been showcased at prestigious festivals including Rotterdam’s International Film Festival and Leipzig’s documentary celebration, earning him accolades such as the Humberto Solás Award. According to MoreThan Films’ managing partner Queralt Pons Serra, the filmmaker’s background in visual arts translates into exceptionally cinematic imagery that creates an emotionally resonant and immersive viewing experience.
