The Morelia Film Festival’s 12th Impulso Morelia program is showcasing six emerging and established Mexican filmmaking projects selected from nearly 90 submissions. The initiative highlights works in various post-production stages, with women filmmakers representing half the lineup. Notable participants include acclaimed directors Tatiana Huezo, known for previous successes including “Tempestad” and “Prayers for the Stolen,” alongside Elisa Miller, recognized for her award-winning film “Hurricane Season.” Both are supported by the prominent production company Pimienta Films.
Impulso Morelia functions as more than a simple exhibition platform, according to program director Andrea Stavenhagen. The festival provides filmmakers with constructive feedback and dialogue with industry professionals during the October 18-20 event, enabling them to refine their projects before public release. Stavenhagen emphasized that the program prioritizes meaningful exchange and collaborative refinement, allowing creators to receive guidance on editing and engage with peers throughout the finalization process.
An international jury panel led by Ted Hope, co-founder of The Good Machine, will evaluate the selected works. Additional panelists include Mexican producer Julio Chavezmontes, Tribeca director Cara Cusumano, and other industry specialists. Substantial awards are available, including the José María Riba Impulso Morelia 12 Award offering $14,740 in cash plus post-production services. Additional in-kind awards from Estudios Churubusco Azteca and other partners provide significant support valued at tens of thousands of dollars.
