The Board of Control for Cricket in India has acknowledged that the demanding fixture calendar presents a significant obstacle to player performance and recovery. During a review meeting at BCCI headquarters, officials discussed strategies to address this concern as they plan the organization’s future international schedule.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia stated that while internal coordination across different departments remains effective, the excessive number of matches annually needs to be addressed through improved planning. He emphasized that upcoming iterations of the Future Tours Programme will prioritize adequate rest periods for players and include preparation opportunities such as warm-up matches before major competitions in traditional cricket powerhouses like South Africa, England, Australia, and New Zealand.
The meeting brought together key figures including Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill, T20I captain Shreyas Iyer, and head coach Gautam Gambhir to evaluate recent performances and outline objectives for the coming year. The team’s recent limited-overs tours of Ireland and England yielded disappointing results, prompting officials to conduct a thorough analysis of what went wrong and develop corrective strategies moving forward.
Saikia indicated that planning efforts are underway to ensure India delivers strong performances in upcoming competitions, particularly the 2027 ODI World Cup. The revised scheduling approach aims to balance the demands of international cricket with player welfare and preparation requirements.
