Former television executive Jeff Zucker has taken on an unexpected acting role in A24’s upcoming film “Primetime,” playing himself opposite Robert Pattinson. The movie, directed by Lance Oppenheim, centers on the controversial “To Catch a Predator” segment that aired on NBC’s “Dateline” and explores the phenomenon and its consequences.
Zucker’s involvement came about through a personal connection. Oppenheim, who attended Harvard University, knew Zucker’s son Andrew and reached out about casting for the film. When asked who should play Zucker’s character, Andrew suggested his father take on the role himself. Zucker agreed to participate, describing the decision as a lighthearted opportunity. The scene Zucker appears in is fictional, depicting him as a ratings-focused network executive—a characterization he found humorous.
The television veteran is no stranger to on-camera appearances. He previously made guest appearances on shows like “Fat Actress” and “My Name Is Earl” during his time running NBC Entertainment. Zucker maintained his Screen Actors Guild membership for approximately 25 years, continuing to pay annual dues. He filmed his scene opposite Pattinson in New Orleans about a year ago, and will attend the film’s premiere at the Venice Film Festival this weekend.
