Producer Todd Black has been selected to receive the inaugural Career Producer Honor at the 39th Virginia Film Festival, set to take place October 21-25 in Charlottesville. The newly established award recognizes the artistic contributions of an exceptional producer and is made possible through an endowment created by festival advisory board members Julie Lynn and Amy Quinn.
During the festival, Black will participate in special screenings and programming, including a presentation of “The Social Reckoning” and a discussion with director Aaron Sorkin. Black served as a producer on the film alongside Sorkin, Stuart M. Besser, and Peter Rice.
Black’s producing career spans decades and includes acclaimed films such as “The Pursuit of Happyness,” “Seven Pounds,” “Fences,” and “Being the Ricardos.” His work on “Fences” earned him a Best Picture nomination in 2017. He also served as president of production at Mandalay Entertainment and founded Escape Artist in 2000.
According to Lynn, the endowment was created to acknowledge the vital role producers play throughout a film’s development and distribution. She noted that Black’s dedication to supporting artists and storytelling makes him an ideal recipient of this inaugural honor.
