Tim Cook marked the conclusion of his 15-year tenure as Apple CEO on August 31, 2026, with an emotional message to the Apple community on social media platform X. The departing executive expressed his enduring affection for the company and its supporters, stating that while his official role would change, his commitment to Apple’s mission would remain unwavering.
Cook assumed leadership of Apple in August 2011 following Steve Jobs’ departure from the company. Beginning September 1, Cook will transition to the position of executive chairman of Apple’s board. He will be replaced by John Ternus, the current Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, who is notably the same age Cook was when he became CEO.
During Cook’s leadership, Apple introduced several iconic product lines, including AirPods and the Apple Watch, while overseeing a complete transformation of its computer offerings through the development of proprietary Silicon chipsets. Under his guidance, the company achieved trillion-dollar valuation status and navigated complex global challenges throughout his tenure.
Ternus will face his inaugural major responsibility as CEO on September 9, when Apple is scheduled to unveil its latest iPhone lineup, featuring its first-ever foldable device model.
