The Minnesota Vikings made a swift reversal on their roster decisions Monday, releasing quarterback Max Brosmer and wide receiver Dillon Bell just one day after both players secured spots on the team’s 53-man roster. According to reports from NFL Network and The Athletic, the moves came shortly after Minnesota claimed two highly-regarded offensive linemen off waivers.
Brosmer, an undrafted rookie who impressed head coach Kevin O’Connell with his grasp of the offensive system, appeared in seven games last season with two starts. His performance on the field proved inconsistent, including a difficult debut against Seattle where he completed 66 percent of his passes but threw four interceptions. During the preseason this year, he completed 33 of 54 attempts with one interception and no touchdowns across limited action.
The releases suggest the initial roster decisions were merely temporary. With only eight offensive linemen originally kept, maintaining four quarterbacks alongside Kyler Murray, Carson Wentz, and J.J. McCarthy was always expected to be unsustainable. Similarly, Bell, an undrafted receiver from Georgia, represented the sixth wide receiver on the initial roster—a number unlikely to hold through the season.
Both players now enter the waiver wire process. Should they clear waivers without being claimed by another franchise, the Vikings retain the option to sign them to their practice squad.
