Sheri Herman, an influential figure in cable and digital media who played a key role in establishing E! Entertainment Television, passed away on August 6 in Florida following heart failure. She was 71 years old. A Philadelphia native and Temple University graduate, Herman began her career in advertising before transitioning into television production and network development.
Throughout her career, Herman demonstrated an exceptional ability to identify emerging opportunities in the entertainment industry. At United Cable, she negotiated crucial carriage agreements and later helped rescue the Discovery Channel from financial distress. Her work with Movietime led to its transformation into E! Entertainment Television, where she oversaw brand development and marketing. Herman also showed prescient vision regarding digital entertainment, founding the pioneering web soap opera “The Spot” at American Cybercast and later bringing innovative music-purchasing features to Access Entertainment’s programming.
After suffering a serious hit-and-run accident in 2007, Herman stepped back from the business world to concentrate on writing and advocacy work. Colleagues remembered her for her creative talents and unwavering dedication to her projects. She is survived by her sister, opera singer Nadine Herman.
