TikTok is expanding its comment functionality with four new interactive features designed to transform how users engage beneath videos. The platform plans to introduce voice messages, polling capabilities, photo collections, and Live Photos to its comment sections, moving beyond traditional text and single-image responses. With approximately 1.7 billion comments posted daily on the platform, these tools will significantly enhance the variety of content users can share in reply sections.
The most notable addition is voice commenting, permitting users to record and upload audio messages up to 60 seconds in length directly under videos. This capability enables creators to envision users sharing spoken reactions, singing responses to music creators, or laughing along with humorous content. The feature will be available to users 18 and older beginning next month. TikTok notes that voice comments will comply with existing Community Guidelines and will utilize both automated systems and human moderators, including speech-to-text technology, to identify and address policy violations.
Additional enhancements include Comment Polls, launching September 3rd, which allow creators to conduct votes within their videos’ comment sections. Users will also gain the ability to upload up to nine photographs in a single comment through Photo Carousel Comments, arriving globally within the coming month. Live Photo Comments, similarly launching September 3rd, permit users to share dynamic images from their camera rolls rather than static photographs.
These updates reflect TikTok’s recognition that comment sections have become integral to the platform’s content ecosystem, with viewers frequently extending discussions, offering context, and creating material that rivals original videos themselves.
