Kilmeade, initially hired to cover sports, was sent downtown to report on the unfolding crisis. He recalls the harrowing scenes he witnessed and the footage his crew collected that day. Doocy was conducting a weather segment with a corporate mascot when he learned of the attacks. Both journalists remained working through the night and in subsequent days, with Doocy separated from his family for two days as the city restricted access.
Fox News plans extensive coverage throughout the week leading up to September 11. Doocy will broadcast from multiple significant locations, including Ground Zero, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C., while Kilmeade will anchor from Jersey City alongside colleagues Ainsley Earhardt and Lawrence Jones. Other programs will read victims’ names and feature interviews with religious and law enforcement officials. The network’s commemoration efforts will align with coverage planned by other major news organizations.
