The Savannah College of Art and Design has announced the full program for SCAD AnimationFest 2026, set to take place September 23-25 at the institution’s Atlanta campus. This year’s tenth anniversary celebration will highlight two major tributes. The festival will honor the 25th anniversary of “The Proud Family” by recognizing creators Bruce W. Smith and Ralph Farquhar with the Animation Trailblazer Award for their groundbreaking impact on mainstream animation. Additionally, DreamWorks Animation’s “Forgotten Island” will premiere as the festival’s closing-night feature, with director Joel Crawford receiving Variety’s Creative Impact in Animation Award.
SCAD AnimationFest is expanding its offerings with two significant additions this year. The festival is launching its first-ever Animated Shorts Competition and becoming the new home for Variety’s prestigious 10 Animators to Watch series, which first debuted in 2015. The event will attract executives and creatives from major studios including Disney, Pixar, Warner Bros., and Paramount+, while showcasing SCAD students and alumni working across animation, motion media design, and visual effects.
Programming includes exclusive previews of “The Cat in the Hat,” screenings of “Toy Story 5” and “Avatar: Aang the Last Airbender,” and special presentations of new series including “President Curtis” and “Helluva Boss.” Behind-the-scenes panels will explore theme-park design and animation storytelling techniques.
