Epic Games has announced a major crossover bringing Sonic the Hedgehog to Fortnite’s upcoming “Override” season. The collaboration celebrates the iconic speedster’s 35th anniversary and introduces playable Sonic content alongside related in-game items and companions for the battle royale title.
Players who purchase the season’s Battle Pass will gain access to Sonic as a playable character, with the option to unlock Tails as a sidekick companion. Additional themed content includes collectible Rings, a Tails Sprite cosmetic, and Sonic Power Sneakers that grant players a Spin Dash ability during gameplay against the villain Dr. Eggman. The season also incorporates classic video game mechanics like Cheat Codes and 1-Up Tokens, blending retro gaming nostalgia with modern Fortnite gameplay.
Takashi Iizuka, Sonic’s creative officer at Sega of America, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that bringing Sonic and his allies into Fortnite provides fans across multiple generations with a fresh way to engage with these cherished characters.
