Apple Music is moving forward with plans to identify artificially generated music on its platform through a new labeling system launching later this year. The streaming service will require record labels and distributors to tag songs containing significant AI-generated content with a “Made With AI” designation, according to communications sent to industry partners.
This initiative builds on Apple Music’s AI Transparency Tagging system, which was introduced in March to track artificial intelligence use within the platform’s catalog. The company has emphasized that content providers bear responsibility for accurately disclosing how their tracks were created, noting that they possess the most detailed knowledge about production methods and AI involvement.
Apple Music’s announcement reflects broader industry efforts to address the proliferation of AI-generated music. Competitors including Spotify and Tidal have implemented their own identification systems, while major music industry organizations have collectively advocated for standardized labeling protocols. According to Apple Music leadership, over one-third of tracks uploaded to the service are entirely AI-generated, underscoring the scale of the challenge facing the platform.
