Blue Finch Films has secured worldwide sales rights to “Flapjax,” a science fiction horror comedy directed by Rocko Zevenbergen, ahead of the film’s world premiere at Fantastic Fest. The U.K.-based sales and distribution company will begin marketing the project at Toronto Film Festival’s newly established industry marketplace. The deal marks a significant step for the project, which originated through Sitges FanPitch, a development platform operated by the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival that connects emerging filmmakers with producers, financiers, and sales agents.
The film follows Arrow, a dedicated fast-food manager whose commitment to his job inadvertently helps advance an extraterrestrial race’s plan when he begins serving customers a sinister new menu item called Flapjax. Zevenbergen co-wrote the screenplay with Estevan Muñoz and directed what he describes as a unique blend of cinematic styles drawing inspiration from both Yasujirō Ozu and David Cronenberg. The project has been in development for over six years and features Gabriel Cagan in a lead role.
The production was spearheaded by Prowler Pictures, with Zevenbergen, Aerin Chaklai, George Jones, Jefferson Moneo, Patrick Hackett, and Fabiola Caraza serving as producers. Fatima Hayward of Blue Finch Films praised Zevenbergen as a distinctive new voice in genre cinema, highlighting his ability to merge body horror with nostalgic comedy elements. The sales company’s current slate also includes “Kick On” and the George MacKay-starring “Misson.”
